I have been a missionary to Mexico since 2004. I became a Christian through the campus ministry of The Navigators in the Philippines. Luke 6:46, “Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?” was the Scripture verse the Lord used to call me to Himself. I went to Manila Christian Day School for elementary and heard many Bible stories. I thought I was a Christian. In November, 1972, I attended a Navigator conference; the theme was the Lordship of Christ. While there, I realized I was not a Christian. As a result, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and decided to make Jesus Lord of my life in all areas of my life.

I moved to the United States in October, 1983, to work as a Registered Nurse in the Chicagoland area. The Lord used Intervarsity’s Christian Fellowship Urbana missions conference in 1984 to challenge me to missions. I remember standing up during one message and committing my life to missions.

In the fall of 1986 I enrolled at Moody Bible Institute to prepare myself for ministry while working as a nurse part-time. While at Moody I decided to pursue a ministry with reaching international students for Christ and there I met the Chicago International Evangelical Free Church (CIEFC).

CIEFC became my home church for the next 12 years. In 1999, I left nursing to pursue a career in business. I completed my masters in business administration which led me to move to the Northwest to pursue a marketing career. In 2002, Rick and Carol Calenberg invited me to a missions conference in Bellingham, WA. During this conference, I remembered how I committed my life to missions and asked the Lord to lead and guide me if He could still use me somewhere. The Lord led me to Mexico.

Today, I am serving in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, using Bible stories for evangelism and discipleship. Feel free to email me at ATVelasco@protonmail.com
