December 2005 Email Update

Dear Friends,

I host and lead a weekly ladies' Bible Study. One question came up recently, "Qué significa Deidad?" (What does Deity mean?). Automatically my mind responded in English, "It is to be God, to have the characteristics of God. It means Jesus is God".

Interestingly, my mind got tongue tied! What I know so well in English and through my experiences here in Mexico, that Jesus is God, my mouth could not express in Spanish. (Emotions play a large part in language fluency).

I grabbed my Spanish dictionary and quickly looked up Deidad. It read, Ser Divino o esencia Divina, meaning, to be Divine or to have the essence of Divinity. I read the definition to the ladies and they understood what Deidad means. The Holy Spirit will have to convince them that Jesus is God.

Amazingly, as I teach scriptures in my third language, more and more I find it truly is the sword of the Spirit convicting men, women and children of sin, righteousness and judgment. It is the power of the word of God that challenges women, teen girls and children to believe that Jesus is God. It has nothing to do with how well I pronounce or mispronounce Spanish theological terms.
